GSA Administrator Names Reichelt to Head GSA's Northeast and Caribbean Region

WASHINGTON, DC - Administrator Stephen A. Perry of the U.S. General Services Administration today announced the selection of New York resident Karl H. Reichelt as the Regional Administrator for GSA's Northeast & Caribbean Region. Mr. Reichelt's appointment is effective today.
"Karl comes highly regarded from the upper ranks of New York State government, and we are thrilled that he is joining our GSA team," Mr. Perry said. "Karl's experience and reputation make him an excellent choice to lead this highly important regional office."
In his role as principal executive of the region, Mr. Reichelt will head a GSA workforce of 832 employees across New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. GSA's Northeast and Caribbean Region has an annual operating budget estimated at $1.9 billion and a real estate portfolio that includes 77 government-owned buildings and leased space in 425 commercial buildings.
Mr. Reichelt joins GSA following nearly seven years of distinguished service in the Administration of New York Governor George E. Pataki. Mr. Reichelt joined the Pataki Administration in 1995 as Assistant Deputy Commissioner for Administration with the New York State Department of Social Services where he oversaw the daily management of Contracts, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Training, Audit, and Child Support Enforcement for a $36 billion, 4,800-employee agency.
Since 1998, Mr. Reichelt has served as Director of Statewide Operations for the New York State Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance, overseeing Buildings and Asset Management, Telecommunications and Technology, Administrative and Executive Services, and Document Services Management for a $4.2 billion, 2,500-employee agency.
Mr. Reichelt recently finished a four-month special assignment related to the World Trade Center disaster as New York State's Human Services Chairman. He led and coordinated the relief efforts of more than 40 government and voluntary agencies providing a range of immediate and long-term assistance to World Trade Center victims and families in 10 New York counties and New York City.

Mr. Reichelt is a 1989 graduate of the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy at the State University of New York at Albany with a BA in Political Science. Mr. Reichelt and his family reside in Rhinebeck, New York.
