FirstGov Adds Shopping and Auctions Feature

Get out your wallets and see what you might buy

Washington, D.C. - FirstGov (www.FirstGov.gov), the U.S. Government's official Internet portal added a new feature to help you find all of the products the government sells on one easy to understand and easy to navigate website.

The new "Shopping and Auctions" page consolidates all of the federal governments' sales of property, real estate, cars, souvenirs, books, gifts, and government auctions in one easy to navigate spot. You can find "Shopping and Auctions" under "Online Services for Citizens," just click on "For Sale!" and select from any of the following eight categories:

Auctions--Get the information you need to participate in the federal government's various sales programs.
Cars & Transportation--Find a deal on cars, boats, SUVs, and planes that the government has seized, acquired, or no longer needs! Buy in both commercial and consumer quantities.
Loans & Investments--Invest in the U.S. by buying guaranteed securities, savings bonds and more, borrow money for a home, education or business, or better yet, the government may owe you money.
Real Estate--The government auctions a variety of real estate that it owns as a result of surplus, foreclosure, tax evasion or seizure.
Souvenirs/Books/Gifts--Shop until your mouse drops! Plan trips, buy gifts and mail them all from the comfort of your own home.
Supplies & Equipment--Federal, state and local agencies sell a great variety of industrial, commercial and residential materials--find computers, furniture, tools, paint and many specialized items.
For Government and Non-Profit Buyers--Special sales of surplus property or the best prices for government and non-profit organizations. Find supplies, computers, equipment, vehicles and more.
Find Sales by Agency--Looking for a particular agency's wares? You're likely to find it here.

The "Shopping and Auctions" feature of FirstGov.gov is the first milestone of President Bush's Federal Asset Sales Electronic Government initiative. FirstGov is managed by the U.S. General Services Administration.
