NAL has three divisions and an Office of the Director. The Office of the Director includes Public Affairs, the Administrative Office that supports NAL and ARS Headquarters and the Agriculture Network Information Center (AgNIC) program. The three divisions are:
- Information Systems Division (ISD) provides technology support to NAL's programs and staff.
- Public Services Division (PSD) including two branches:
- The Information Services and Collections Branch (ISCB) manages the Library's Special Collections, Preservation/Digitization program, Document Delivery Services, and Research and Reader Services
- The Strategic Programs Branch (SPB) consists of specialized Information Centers that support the information needs of the general public, NAL partners and USDA.
- Technical Services Division (TSD) is comprised of two branches - Acquisitions & Collection Development and Bibliographic Services. These units are responsible for the core information access functions by developing and maintaining AGRICOLA, the NAL Agricultural Thesaurus, and the acquisition of the NAL collection including journals, books, etc.
