Welcome! From your USNH Yokosuka Ombudsman.

Dear New USNH Yokosuka Service Member and Family,

Welcome to USNH Yokosuka and Japan! As family members and command volunteers, we know that you are bogged down with paperwork and information. We're here to make your transition from the States to Japan a smooth one. Please email or call us with any of your questions.

It is mandatory that all service members and their adult family members attend the Inter-cultural Relations Class (ICR) and the Area Orientation Brief (AOB) offered by the Fleet & Family Service Center (FFSC), located on the 4th floor of the new Community Center, building 3365. We encourage you to bring your older youth and/or teen as this is an excellent resource for helping children cope with another duty station in addition to being overseas in a foreign country. Each of these classes will help make the move to Japan easier, and you will meet other people who have also recently arrived here that may become new friends to network with at this potential lonely and confusing time. The number for the FFSC is DSN: 243-6716 or 3372, give them a call today to reserve your spot in this fun and information packed opportunity. Either the hourly Child Development Center (CDC) or a Home Provider can be used for younger children, usually with an advance notice of two weeks. For those younger family members, be sure to ask about this service when you enroll in the AOB/ICR class.

We're here to assist YOU, our USNH family member, and we hope to be helpful in smoothing out any difficulties that you might have! Be sure to take good care of yourself by getting enough rest, asking plenty of questions, taking plenty of notes, and please do not hesitate to ask for any information referrals that you might need. We're here to assist you!

Welcome to your new HOME!

Prepared and ready to help out,

Mr. O. Hrafnsson
Mrs. Heather Jackson

What is an Ombudsman?
The ombudsman is a volunteer, chosen by the Commanding Officer, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An ombudsman is a spouse of an active duty or selected reserve member assigned to the command who serves as the official liaison between the command and its families. The ombudsman assists the CO in maintaining the morale and welfare of the command's active duty service members and its families.

What an Ombudsman does?
The ombudsman acts as an advocate for families and single sailors. We help to disseminate accurate information regarding command policies, services available, and deployments. We are a confidential Point of Contact for families and single sailors and refer them to the appropriate agency for questions, concerns, help, or intervention according to OPNAVINST 1750.1F

What an Ombudsman is not?
The ombudsman is not a trained counselor or social worker, but can show you the way to solving your problems or getting assistance.
