Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) offered Special Direct Consolidation Loans to eligible borrowers with
- at least one student loan held by ED—a Direct Loan or a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loan owned by ED and serviced by one of ED’s servicers—and
- at least one commercially-held FFEL Program loan (a FFEL Program loan that is owned by a FFEL lender and serviced either by that lender or by a servicer contracted by that lender).
Please visit our Consolidation page if you are interested in learning about other options for combining your federal student loans. If you have already applied for a Special Direct Consolidation Loan and have questions, please visit the Student Loans website or contact your loan servicer.
