Hanford's 242-A Evaporator successfully reduces 480,000 gallons of waste in double-shell tanks
Workers at Hanford’s only nuclear processing facility, the 242-A Evaporator, have completed two operating campaigns that successfully reduced the volume of waste in the double-shell storage tanks by 480,000 gallons, creating additional space to store radioactive and chemical waste that will be removed from aging single-shell tanks.

PHOTO GALLERY: Explosive Demolition at Hanford's 300 Area
Early Saturday morning, October 9, 2010, three structures in Hanford’s 300 Area came crashing to the ground…as planned. The explosive demolition of the 309 Building stack, 337 Building and 337B Building capped months of work by Washington Closure Hanford and subcontractor staff. The stack was 110 feet tall, the 337B Building was 93 feet tall and the 337 Building was three stories tall.
