Oct 5, 2012, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. - For more than a decade Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), Lakehurst, N.J. has nurtured a very successful relationship with Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. to educate engineers and scientists entering the Navy’s technical workforce.
On October 3rd, Ms. Kathleen Donnelly, Director, Support Equipment and Aircraft Launch and Recovery Engineering Department accepted an award from Stevens Tech as the 2012 Employer of the Year.
According to the Stevens Career Development Office, as an employer of Stevens graduates, NAVAIR has gone above and beyond the typical recruitment relationship during their ten year partnership. NAVAIR’s long term dedication to the Stevens community includes participation in on-campus recruiting, attendance at Career Fairs and creating opportunities for cooperative education of students and interns.
As a result of these efforts, over 100 Stevens graduates are currently employed with the Navy as scientists and engineers supporting the operations and readiness of the fleet on a daily basis. Additionally, in 2002 Stevens worked with NAVAIR to develop a Master of Science program in Systems Engineering focusing specifically on Navy mission requirements. To date, more than 130 NAVAIR employees have completed the program.
In accepting the Employer of the Year award, Ms. Donnelly stated, “the Navy is a global force for good, and our partnership with Stevens Institute of Technology is helping to ensure that when ships and aircraft carry Sailors and Marines to provide humanitarian relief, or to deter our Nation's enemies, they are backed up by the best technical talent our country can provide. We're looking forward to many more years of work together, and many more Stevens graduates joining us at Lakehurst.”
Founded in 1870, Stevens Institute of Technology has over 6,100 undergraduate and graduate students with more than 450 faculty members. They are ranked in the top 3% of schools in the nation for return on investment for students, 13th in the nation for best campus career job placement and a top 20 school in the nation for women and minorities pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Stevens has been recognized by both the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center for Excellence in systems engineering and port security research.
