Ranking Member Edward J. Markey, who was selected to lead the Democrats on the Natural Resource Committee in December, welcomed and praised his fellow committee members for the 112th Congress.

"The Democrats have selected an all-star line-up to serve on the Natural Resources Committee, where job creation will be our top priority," said Markey. "Our members hail from diverse regions of our great nation, and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit consumers as we fight against rising gas prices and defend America's pristine lands and waterways from polluters."

The Natural Resources Committee is tasked with stewardship over our public lands, parks and forests and protecting wildlife, oceans and waterways. The committee also has jurisdiction over Native American and insular affairs, energy and minerals, and water and power. The committee will also continue oversight and investigation into the BP oil spill.

"Democrats in Congress have been working to harness America's clean energy resources to create jobs, end our dangerous reliance on foreign oil and help consumers fight rising gas prices and energy costs," said Markey. "We look forward to working with Chairman Hastings and our Republican colleagues on policies that create clean energy jobs for Americans, while cutting the national debt."
