CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - General Charles M Gurganus, Commander of International Security Assistance Force Regional Command Southwest, recognizes the coordination of successful operations by the DCoPs from Marjah and Nad Ali Districts of Helmand Province to repel insurgent attacks.
Shadi Khan and Omar Jan, the DCoPs from Marjah and Nad Ali Districts of Helmand Province worked side-by-side and demonstrated great professionalism in their ability to work together and use the skill of their police forces.
Omar Jan mounted a major clearance operation on 22 September after receiving several threat warnings against checkpoints. He organized a force of approximately 100 AUP resulting in the death of 3 insurgents and the capture of 15 detainees who were transferred to Lashkar Gah.
This was a highly complex security operation which demonstrated the AUP's awareness of the enemy and the ability to coordinate resources, including manpower and ammunition, as well as capture insurgents for prosecution. The strong leadership, professionalism and courage which enabled these brave police to conduct these successful security operations against the enemy shows the continued growth and effectiveness of Afghan police.
