KABUL – Deputy Commander of Supporting Operations (DCOM-SPO) attached to NATO Training Mission- Afghanistan /Combined Security Transition Command- Afghanistan (NTM-A/CSTC-A), held an assumption of command ceremony Apr.11.

Brig. Gen. Clark W. Lemasters assumed command of the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), based out of Fort Hood, Texas. DCOM- SPO supports the building of the Afghan National Security Forces to generate autonomous, accountable security forces by 2014.

“Command of soldiers is a privilege and honor that comes a few times in a military career”, said Lemasters. “I commend you all for the incredible work you’ve done, I will do my best to continue the attack with you and raise the bar.”

 Typically, the 13th ESC deploys, providing command and control of assigned, attached and operationally controlled units, and plans and provides sustainment, distribution, and health service support for full spectrum operations.

Since June 2011, the command has provided mentoring and training support to NTM- A. This is the first time a logistics unit of this echelon has been tasked to deploy not as a senior logistics headquarters but as mentors and trainers.

“I will have to say that I never imagined that I would be taking command of an Expeditionary Sustainment Command, which is part of a NATO mission like ours in Kabul”, Lemasters said. “I’m your partner in anything necessary to accomplish our mission, we will give you all we have to grow the capabilities and increase capacity of the security forces of this nation.”

NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan is a coalition of 38 troop-contributing nations charged with assisting the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in generating a capable and sustainable Afghan National Security Force ready to take lead of their country’s security by 2014.
