MAZAR-E SHARIF, Balkh Province – Nowruz or “New Day” marks the beginning of the new year in Afghanistan. Regional Command North Commander, Maj. Gen. Erich Pfeffer, issued the following message in regards to Nowruz, which also marks the first day of Spring.

“I celebrate the 1391 Nowroz with the Soldiers of International Security Assistance Force Regional Command North here in Mazar-e Sharif and all throughout northern Afghanistan. There are many events, such as planting trees and enjoying celebrations, but one significant act that continues to grow on a daily basis is our partnership, despite the time of year. Like every tree, it begins small however with time, nourishment and care, it will continue to grow; this is how I imagine the bond and the roots we have formed between ISAF and Afghans and as time goes on, we, too, will be deeply rooted together in the name of peace, harmony, and prosperity for all Afghans.

On behalf of all the Soldiers in Regional Command North, I wish you only the best during this New Year. Nowruz Mubarak.”
