Wiesbaden soph on target in German shooting

Wiesbaden sophomore Daniel Boehme, 15, won a bronze medal in the German national clay-pigeon championships conducted Sept. 8-9 in Kreilingen, Germany, according to his parents Mike and Sharon Boehme. Shooting in the minors’ category for competitors younger than 21, Boehme knocked down 149 of 200 clay pigeons, a total exceeded only by the 152 and 162 shattered by the 19- and 20-year-olds who finished ahead of him, Boehm’s parents reported.

In a show of versatility Thursday, Boehme finished sixth in a three-way golf tournament conducted on his home course at Rheinblick with a Stableford score of 20 points.

Kingfish swimmers set marks on opening day

Danielle Davis, Connor Davis and Bobby Gaston won their inauguaral European Forces Swim League 200-meter short-course backstroke races Saturday and set team records in the process, according to Kaiserslautern Kingfish publicity chair Jodi Johnson.
 

Danielle Davis set the Kingfish's team mark in the girls’ 13-14-year-old division with a time of 2:49.95. Gaston placed the boys’ 15-16-year record at 2:37.46, and Connor Davis established the boys’ 17-19 record in 2:25.32 as the EFSL opened another season. Their performances in the event, being contested for the first time this season, helped the Kingfish edge Stuttgart 592-565 in the three-team meet. Vilseck-Grafenwoehr was third with 42 points.
 

Sigonella schedules early-bird kick-off

Anyone planning to attend the first game of the high school football season Saturday in Sigonella should set an alarm clock.

After having to suspend their football program for their final three games last season because of a lack of players, the revived Sigonella Jaguars will have 19 players or so suited up when they kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday against the visiting 2011 Division III champions from Rota.
 

Tryouts set for Heidelberg Select soccer teams

The soccer field next to the Patrick Henry Village bowling alley will be the site of tryouts Sunday for the Heidelberg Select boys’ and girls’ traveling soccer teams, according to youth sports organizers in that community.

Tryouts for the Under-9 and Under-11 teams are scheduled for 2-2:45 p.m.; the Under-13 and Under-15 squads are to take the field from 3-3:45 p.m., and the high-school-level squad is to be filled between 4 and 4:45 p.m.
