Duties

Gina Pearson is the Assistant Administrator (AA) for Communications, and in this capacity provides leadership and direction to conduct the U.S. Energy Information Administration's comprehensive communications program for diverse external customer groups and agency employees. The AA for Communications is responsible for agency communications policies and standards, the EIA.gov website, external web application development, press and media relations, marketing and outreach services, the annual EIA Energy Conference, energy education and literacy efforts, and the Inside EIA employee intranet site.

Biography

Since 2006, Gina Pearson has played a leadership role in the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) strategy and operations for communicating information and data to federal, state and local agencies; the academic community; industry and commercial organizations; foreign governments and international organizations; the news media; the research and financial communities; and the general public. Most recently, Gina served as the Director of EIA's National Energy Information Center.

Gina is a certified Project Management Professional with more than 15 years of experience creating communications and web-based solutions for government, public sector, and policy organizations. Gina was a founding member of the Federal Web Content Managers Forum and has served on the steering committees for FedWeb, the Digital Government Institute, and other educational organizations serving the federal web community. In 2014, Gina was recognized with Federal Computer Week's Fed 100 award for her stewardship of EIA's innovative interactive mapping program. She received two "Hammer Awards" from former Vice President Gore, recognizing her work in creating customer-oriented federal websites, as well as a Government Information Technology Services (GITS) Board Information Technology Innovation Fund Award.

Gina's work experience before joining EIA includes management and oversight of the online services offered to both external customers and employees of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service (ERS). Prior to her tenure at ERS, Gina was a Senior Technology Consultant for Advanced Technology Systems (ATS), where she played a lead role in redesigning the U.S. Department of Labor's website, dol.gov, and in launching disability.gov and workers.gov. Gina was also a program analyst for the U.S. Department of Education, where she helped launch the websites students.gov, studentjobs.gov, and the homepage of the Project EASI (Easy Access for Students and Institutions) initiative. She was also assigned to the National Partnership for Reinventing Government, where she coordinated the Federal Communicators Network and helped promote the first federal electronic government initiative, known as "Access America."

Gina graduated class valedictorian from Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus, with majors in both journalism and anthropology. She was a Ph.D. candidate in sociocultural anthropology at The American University in Washington, DC, from which she received her M.A. degree.
