Supporting The VolcanoCam

How To Support Your VolcanoCams

How is the VolcanoCam supported?

The Mount St. Helens VolcanoCams are maintained by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Logo - Northwest Interpretive Association The Mount St. Helens VolcanoCams receive no government funding. In fact, there is no budget at all for the VolcanoCams. We thank our longstanding non-profit partner, Discover Your Northwest for their continuing support for the VolcanoCams, especially our VolcanoCam viewers who support us through Discover Your Northwest.

Staff support for the VolcanoCams comes from several of us as time permits. Unfortunately our time is too often quite limited.

What happens if a VolcanoCam breaks down?

For a long time the answer to the question was no more VolcanoCam.

However, Discover Your Northwest has been very supportive of our efforts. In fact, we are going to retire the ClassicCam in Spring 2010 and replace it with another High Definition camera, thanks to donated funds through Discover Your Northwest. With two HD cameras, complete with zoom lenses, we will be able to operate them remotely. The plan is to have one camera offer a view of the volcano in its entirety (depending upon the season), while we will use the second camera to zoom in on the dome and ever-growing glacier. Hey, there may be an opportunity the new camera might spot a climber on the South Rim! We won't know until it's installed.

You can always contact Discover Your Northwest if you wish to donate to support the VolcanoCam. All that is asked is that you notify Discover Your Northwest that your donation is for the Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam.

I might be willing to donate the equipment you need. Who do I contact?

Use our VolcanoCam contact web form.

If I donate equipment, will you say so on the VolcanoCam web site?

The US Government does not endorse any product or service.
