Norridgewock Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Federal Firearms Violations
Bangor, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Douglas Stebbins, Jr., 28, of Norridgewock, was sentenced yesterday by Chief Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. in U.S. District Court in Bangor to 10 years of imprisonment and three years of supervised release. Stebbins pleaded guilty on June 23, 2010, to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court records reveal that between October 2007 and January 2008, Stebbins paid another man to purchase fifteen firearms for him from federally licensed firearms dealers in Maine. Stebbins had been convicted of a felony drug offense in 2005 and was prohibited from possessing firearms. The evidence established that Stebbins took the firearms he acquired in Maine to Massachusetts to trade them for drugs.
U.S. Attorney Delahanty said that the prosecution was successful because of the cooperative efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Holden Massachusetts Police Department, the Worcester Massachusetts Police Department, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of State Police.
