Colonel Masiello

Col. Gregory Masiello of Linthicum, Md., was commissioned in May 1987 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Following The Basic School, and training as a Naval Aviator, he was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1989 and assigned to HMT-303 for Fleet Replacement Training in the UH-1N. Upon completion, he was assigned to HMLA-267, deployed to Okinawa, and subsequently to the Philippines in support of MAGTF(C)4-90. Following the September 1992 Weapons and Tactics Instructor course at MAWTS-1, Masiello deployed with HMM-164 (REIN), 13th MEU (SOC) during Operation Restore Hope.

Following graduation from Amphibious Warfare School (AWS) in May 1995, Masiello served at the Officer’s Candidate School and then reported to HMX-1 in August 1995 where he served as the UH-1N Division Head and Operational Test Director (OTD), Plans Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, Presidential Command Pilot, and Marine One Pilot.

In May 1999, Masiello reported to the 1st MAW for duty as the Staff Secretary for the Commanding General. In March 2000, he reported to the Naval Postgraduate School for advanced acquisition study, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Management with "Distinction" and was a recipient of the RADM McClellan Award for academic excellence. In June 2002, Masiello reported to PMA-261 as the VH Assistant Program Manager for Systems Engineering.

Masiello was reassigned in March 2003, as the Deputy Program Manager, Presidential Helicopter Replacement (VH-71) Program in PMA-274. In May 2006, he was reassigned to the V-22 Joint Program Office (PMA-275) where he served as MV-22 DPM and Director, Weapon Systems Integrator. He then reported to the National Defense University, attending the Senior Acquisition Course at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Masiello has served as Deputy Program Executive Officer for Operations since June 2008.

Masiello’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He was the inaugural recipient of the MCAA Michael Hough Acquisition Officer of the Year Award in 2005. He is DAWIA certified Level III in Program Management and Level III in Test and Evaluation.
