DoD Instruction 1342.22, "Military Family Readiness" July 3, 2012 This Instruction establishes policy guidance, assigns responsibilities, and prescribes procedures for the implementation, oversight, accountability, staffing, and funding of Family Centers within the Department of Defense.

Key Points

Family Center staff can assist service members and their families by directing them to the resources they need. They will never turn a service member or family member away.  MilitaryINSTALLATIONS has location and contact information for all US military installation Family Centers.  All installations with more than 500 active duty service members have Family Centers.

Family readiness services shall be provided through a system that maximizes the network of agencies, programs, services and individuals, and the collaboration among them, to promote military family readiness.

Family programs function differently for service members who are geographically dispersed and not living close to an installation. There is a tremendous amount of information available via the phone and Internet for geographically dispersed families through resources and programs such as Military OneSource and the Joint Family Support Assistance Program.

Eligibility

Active duty, National Guard, and Reserve members, and their families are eligible regardless of mobilization status.

Availability

Family Centers are located on every installation with over 500 active duty service members.
