ENERGY STAR ICT Products Roadmapping Workshop

Recognizing the unique nature of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) products — their complexity, their rapid evolution, their global nature, and their interplay with many other product types — EPA and the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) will host an informal brainstorming dialog on July 10, 2012 regarding the near term future of ENERGY STAR for ICT products and ICT-enabled solutions. Discussions will focus on the following three interest areas:

  • ENERGY STAR Product Specifications. Informing the ENERGY STAR specification process for ICT-related ENERGY STAR product specifications, addressing, but not limited to, product performance characteristics and any consumer benefit requirements, with a focus on the next 3–5 years.
  • ICT-Enabled Intelligent Efficiency Solutions and ENERGY STAR. Helping shape the vision for ENERGY STAR’s engagement with ICT-enabled intelligent efficiency solutions and the US economy’s increased reliance on ICT-enabled systems architectures, again with a focus on the next 3-5 years.
  • Data Center Energy Efficiency Best Practices. Discussing approaches and opportunities to encourage the adoption of data center energy efficiency best practices.

Workshop discussions will continue via a limited set of conference calls through the fall. By the end of 2012, EPA and ITI anticipate developing and posting on the ENERGY STAR website summary documents that capture discussions and recommendations for each of these interest areas.
