Multi-Climate Protection (MCP)

Mission

The Multi-Climate Protection (MCP) Clothing System replaces outdated bulky cold weather gear with a modular protective clothing system which provides flame protection, thermal protection, and sufficient insulation, while reducing heat stress associated with multiple layers of clothes. Components of the system will be used for a wide range of temperatures and climate conditions. The undergarments are to be worn under anti-exposure suits to replace existing liners.

Description

MCP allows layering of garments based upon individual needs, aircraft, mission and environmental conditions. The system uses Polartec fire-retardant fleece constructed from Nomex fibers to provide insulation and protection from flame and the use of waterproof/breathable Goretex fabric for the shell pieces. MCP consists of garments worn under a flight suit or drysuit and garments worn overtop. The under layers are a silk weight shirt and drawer; mid-weight fleece shirt and drawer and heavy weight fleece shirt and drawer. The outer garments are a fleece biboverall (worn under the shell pant); fleece vest; fleece jacket; waterproof jacket and waterproof pant. A facemask was also developed for rotary wing aircrew.
