Roles in the Corps: Infantry
Infantry is the central component of Marine ground forces. Infantrymen are trained to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, or repel the enemy's assault by fire and close combat.
The mainstay of the Ground Combat Element is the infantry, but every Marine on the ground is ably supported by artillery, amphibious assault vehicles, tanks and combat engineers. See more roles on the Ground.
