2.0 Site Status Summary
In the early 1960's Halaco, an aluminum and magnesium recycler, accepted Mag-Thor for recycling. The Mag-Thor reduced Thorium rich slag and was relocated to the Halaco waste management unit resulting in a 40 foot high pile of slag containing areas that exceed .05% Thorium by weight.
3.0 Major Technical or Regulatory Issues
Licensee declared bankruptcy in 2003 and became non-responsive to Department inquiries. Site has since been deemed an EPA Superfund.
