Alex Trebek, 'Jeopardy!' Crew Set to Visit Bases in Italy, Germany

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Long-time USO supporter and iconic game show host Alex Trebek is on the hunt. Trebek and the crew from “Jeopardy!” will be heading to four American military bases in Italy and Germany Oct. 6-13 in search of contestants to appear on the popular game show's upcoming “Salute to the Military” competition. They will also be shooting video clues that will appear on the show.

“There is no call higher than that of our armed forces and their service to our nation,” Trebek said. “I can’t wait to show my support to the troops and let them know that America still cares about them and their mission.”

Trebek has been relaying that message to American servicemen and women with the USO since 1987. He has participated in 12 USO tours and was a recipient of the USO Bob Hope Award for his achievements in entertainment and commitment to troops. He has also traveled the globe with the USO, tirelessly boosting troop morale and raising awareness of America’s armed forces. In 2007, Trebek traveled to Japan, where he toured numerous bases, learned about combat operations and visited the USS Kitty Hawk. Some of the countries Trebek has visited with the USO include South Korea, Iceland, Turkey and the Philippines.

Entering his 29th season as host of “Jeopardy!,” the television icon has recorded more than 6,500 episodes and delivered clues from some of the world’s most spectacular destinations.  Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, he has won five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host and, in 2011, received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
