Performs both routine and moderate complex radiographic procedure, selects and sets adequate technical factors necessary to produce exams of good quality. Operates digital radiography as well as conventional Radiology equipment. Performs all types of routine exams including the following areas: skull, mastoids, sinuses, facial bones, chest, spine, KUB, obstructive series, bones and joints and others. Must assist radiologist to perform fluoroscopy procedures/examinations; this includes: gastrointestinal and genitourinary exams, arthrograms, and enteroclysis, video modified barium swallows, ERCPs, defecograms and myelography (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar). Prepares all supplies and equipment needed. Prepares the contrast media and other medications required. Administers oral contrast. Prepares and positions patient. Performs portable exams to very ill patients at different wards. Will perform operating room exams such as Cholangiography, pre and post reductions and others. Will operate the C-Arm Unit for fluoroscopy as required by surgeons. Must be responsible for the quality assurance of the imagepositioning/label/techniques/network information) prior to transmission to the PACS network. Will perform loading and unloading of cassettes in the CR unit. Will check and sign the Carresto Cart. Must inform any equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor to assure prompt repair. Will enter weighted working unit (wwu’s) right after study has finished.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. citizenship.

English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English is required in accordance with 38 USC 4105(c). You will need to demonstrate proficiency in writing, reading and speaking English. 38 U.S.C. a7402(d) and 7407(d) requires that persons appointed to direct patient-care positions must possess the required basic proficiency in spoken and written English.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must have completed a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associates's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology. (1) Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and be certified as radiographers in their field.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Requirements: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) AND meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel.  

Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of standing and walking. There is some bending and carrying of moderately heavy articles such as film cassettes, treatment devices, and molds with heavier lifting of wedges and specially designed shielding blocks. Patients often are assisted to achieve proper positioning, which may require reaching, lifting, or working in strained positions. The deterioration of the patient due to disease progression often requires lifting of the patient from stretchers or wheelchairs to treatment and examination tables utilizing special techniques designed to minimize the discomfort of the patient.

 

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

 

GS-5 Experience and Education: None beyond the basic requirements.

 

GS-6 EXPERIENCE: At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies described at that level, i.e., experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities, and other characteristics needed to provide general radiologic technology services in a therapeutic setting; OR, EDUCATION: The successful completion of a 4-year baccalaureate degree program in radiography or other directly related field to diagnostic radiology/imaging. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of basic technique standards for minimum radiographic exposure; 2. Knowledge of anatomy and positioning; 3. Knowledge of all patient safety procedures; 4. Knowledge of radiographic producing equipment; and 5. Ability to learn basic computer functions.

 

GS-7 EXPERIENCE: At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies described at that level, i.e., experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics needed to provide general radiologic technology services in a therapeutic setting and/or in a specialized area.OR EDUCATION: The successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate education leading to a degree program in radiography or other directly related field related to diagnostic radiology/imaging. Education may relate to the duties of a specific position or to the occupation, but must be appropriate for the position being filled. Certification.  Certification by ARRT in one of the specialized areas of radiologic technology is highly desirable, in addition to certification by ARRT as a general radiologic technologist. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge of the technical adequacy of the digital image, including the ability to adjust the image quality in the digital system; 2. Knowledge of different contrast material required for the requested study; 3. Knowledge of radiation protection standards, minimum radiographic exposure techniques, appropriate beam limitation to anatomical area, and employing lead shielding when performing standard or fluoroscopic procedures; 4. Knowledge of the function of computed radiography, Phosphor cassettes and computed radiography (CR) readers; 5. Knowledge of PACS systems, CDROMS, and basic computer skills

 

GS-8 EXPERIENCE: In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Knowledge of the technical adequacy of the digital image, including the ability to adjust the image quality in the digital system; 2. Knowledge of different contrast material required for the requested study; 3. Knowledge of radiation protection standards, minimum radiographic exposure techniques, appropriate beam limitation to anatomical area, and employing lead shielding when performing standard or fluoroscopic procedures. 4. Knowledge of the function of computed radiography, Phosphor cassettes and computed radiography (CR) readers; 5. Knowledge of PACS systems, CD ROMS, and basic computer skills).

 

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS:

   1. Proficient in spoken Spanish.

   2. At least one (1) year of experience as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (General).
