Jorge Castillo and Jorge Castillo-Arroyo, a father and son, purportedly led an operation that manufactured and sold false identification to individuals on the streets of Chicago. A nearly two year U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigation led to the arrest of these individuals and five more on Oct. 28. From 2001 to 2008, Opas Sinprasong sponsored Thai nationals' admission to the U.S. as specialty workers for his restaurants at a cost of $4,500 to upwards of $22,000. He then forced the employees to work overtime without compensation and failed to report wages to the Internal Revenue Service. Full story
All counties in Arizona have activated ICE's Secure Communities program. The program cross-references fingerprints of individuals in custody of local law enforcement against immigration databases maintained by the Department of Homeland Security's Office of US-VISIT. ICE uses the information to identify and remove aliens convicted of crimes. Across the nation, 746 jurisdictions have activated the program. Full story
