HSI, the U.S. Marshal's Service and Schenectady Police officers executed a federal search warrant at his residence in July 2009 and seized five computer towers, a laptop computer, digital camera, four bags of various CDs and DVDs, one external hard drive and a VHS video tape.

Forensic analysis of the evidence collected determined that one hard drive contained approximately 27 videos of child pornography and approximately 401 fantasy stories of child pornography, rape and incest, images of cartoon/computer generated child pornography. One other hard drive had approximately 84 still images of child pornography and approximately 26 still images of child erotica were discovered.

Stanfill pled guilty in U.S. District Court to one count indictment charging him with the receipt of child pornography. He was not immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal's Service and was given a mid-November 2010 report date.
