Detainee passes away at Florida hospital

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - On Aug. 14, 2009, Huluf Guangule Negusse, a 24-year-old Ethiopian national being held with a final order of removal pending the receipt of his travel documents, passed away at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) in Florida.

Negusse was admitted to TMH on Aug. 3, 2009, after he was found by Wakulla County Detention Facility staff following a suicide attempt. At the recommendation of a medical proxy, Negusse was removed from life support on August 14.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have notified the Ethiopian Consulate. Negusse has no known next of kin in the United States or in Ethiopia. Consistent with ICE protocol, the appropriate state health and local law enforcement agencies have been notified.
