    This Advisor is designed to help employers determine which federal disability nondiscrimination laws apply to their business or organization. The Advisor also helps recipients of federal financial assistance understand their responsibilities under these laws.
    The Advisor will provide you with a customized list of federal disability nondiscrimination laws that may apply and links to detailed information that will help you understand your requirements under these laws.

    The employment section of the U.S. Department of Labor's Disability.gov web site offering job seekers, employers, and employees practical information about finding a job, recruiting and hiring people with disabilities, job accommodations, starting a small business, and the laws and regulations that protect the employment rights of people with disabilities. The web site also provides information on mentoring programs and job training services for people with disabilities.

  • Bureau of Labor Statistics Monthly Data Statistics on the Employment Status of People with a Disability
    The US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has added questions to the Current Population Survey (CPS) to identify persons with a disability in the civilian non-institutional population age 16 and older. The CPS is a monthly household survey conducted BLS that provides a comprehensive body of information on the employment and unemployment experience of the Nation's population, classified by age, sex, race, and a variety of other characteristics. The addition of these questions allowed BLS to begin releasing monthly labor force data from the CPS for persons with a disability.

    Website that offers ready access to descriptive information on services and outcomes for state agencies that provide employment supports to individuals with disabilities. The site generates customized and accessible charts of state, national, and individual disability data. The site currently includes data sets from state mental retardation/developmental disabilities agencies, the Rehabilitation Services Administration, the Social Security Administration, and the U.S. Department of Labor.

    A job-posting site to enable people with disabilities to enhance their professional lives by providing a dedicated system for finding employment.

    A comprehensive database for collecting, organizing, describing, and disseminating data on job characteristics and worker attributes.

  • Office of Personnel Management (OPM): Federal Employment of People with Disabilities (Office of Personnel Management)
    OPM's website providing a simple and straightforward mechanism to help Americans, with and without disabilities, better understand how to hire and retain persons with disabilities in federal jobs.

  • Office of Disability Employment Policy Resources
    In the FY2001 Department of Labor appropriation, Congress approved an Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) to be headed by an Assistant Secretary. ODEP's mission is to provide leadership to increase employment opportunities for adults and youth with disabilities.

  • SBA Resources for Veterans
    The mission of the Small Business Administration's Office of Veterans Business Development is to maximize the availability, applicability and usability of all administration small business programs for Veterans, including Service-Disabled Veterans, Reserve Component Members, and their Dependents or Survivors. The Office provides access to business training, counseling, technical assistance and mentoring to eligible veterans.


  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
    The TANF program provides assistance and work opportunities to needy families by granting states, territories and tribes the federal funds and wide flexibility to develop and implement their own welfare programs. The assistance is time-limited and promotes work, responsibility and self-sufficiency. The TANF block grant is administered by state, territorial and tribal agencies.
