George C. Lundberg was born on Oct. 19, 1892, in Titusville, Penn. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in 1916, and served as a private first class in the Aviation Section, Signal Reserve, from Oct. 23, 1917, until Feb. 13, 1918, when he was commissioned a second lieutenant, Aviation Section, Signal Reserve. He was commissioned a second lieutenant, Air Reserve, in the regular Army on July 1, 1920.

From February 1918 to April 1920 he was in command of the 9th Balloon Company and also served as Post Exchange Officer at Fort Omaha, Neb. His next assignment was to the United States Army Balloon School, Fort Omaha, where he served as Air Service Supply Officer until February 1922 when he became Commanding Officer of Fort Omaha. He then attended the Air Service Balloon School and Airship School, Scott Field, Ill., and upon completing the course served with the 9th Airship Company at Scott Field until August 1924. He attended the Air Service Primary Flying School, Brooks Field, Texas, from September 1924 until January 1925, then entered the Air Service Advanced Flying School, Kelly Field, Texas, completing the Specialized Orientation Course for lighter-than-air officers in March 1925. He was then assigned to duty with the 10th School Group at Kelly Field.

In July 1925 he went to Camp Nichols, Philippine Islands, to join the 28th Bombardment Squadron, and later became the Post Exchange Officer. Returning to the United States, he was assigned to Scott Field, Ill., to command the 8th Airship Company in September 1927, and in July 1929 became Assistant Air Corps Supply Officer, Langley Field, Va. He was named Post Exchange Officer, Langley Field, in April 1930, and in October 1932 was ordered to Bolling Field, D.C., as Air Corps Supply Officer. Entering the Air Corps Primary Flying School, Randolph Field, Texas, in June 1936, he graduated in February 1937. He then enrolled in the Air Corps Advanced Flying School at Kelly Field, Texas, and graduated from the Observation Section in June 1937. The following July he proceeded to Middletown Air Depot, Middletown, Penn., as Depot Supply Officer.

In January 1940 he entered the Air Corps Tactical School, Maxwell Field, Ala., and graduated the following April. He then resumed his duties as Depot Supply Officer of the Middletown Air Depot, Middletown, Penn., in December 1941. He was given an unannounced overseas assignment in November 1943. Subsequently he was announced as commanding the Sixth Air Force Service Command, Panama Canal Zone. In February 1945 he was designated Commanding General of the Antilles Air Command.

He is rated a command pilot, balloon pilot, combat observer, balloon observer and aircraft observer.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit.
