Retired March 30, 1964.   Died Nov. 12, 1979.

George Elston Price was born in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1908. He graduated from Los Angeles Polytechnic High School in 1925, and in June 1928, was appointed a flying cadet. A year later, upon graduation from advanced flying school, he was rated a pilot and commissioned a second lieutenant.

Lieutenant Price then served as a fighter pilot in California and Hawaii and as a fighter instructor at Kelly Field, Texas. He spent more than three years as a test pilot at Wright Field, Ohio, and then went into the field of production engineering of aircraft, engines and equipment. It is of interest to note that in September of 1946, he formed the first guided missiles organization in the Air Corps and headed it for its first year.

After graduating from the Air War College in 1948, he became, in Tokyo, the deputy to the chief of staff for operations of Far East Air Forces.

In 1951 he was given command of the Northern Air Defense Area of Japan and was promoted to brigadier general.

For four years, he was director of requirements at Air Force Headquarters and was promoted to his present rank of major general.

In July of 1956, General Price became commander of the Sacramento Air Materiel Area. Four years later, he became commander of Air Materiel Force, European Area. While at AMFEA, in 1961, General Price received the Air Force Association's annual award for "the most distinguished contribution to management in a position of great responsibility".

Returning to the United States, the general again assumed commander duties of the Sacramento Air Force Materiel Area on June 1, 1962, with duty station at McClellan Air Force Base, Calif.

General Price has been awarded the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. He is a rated command pilot.
