Brig. Gen. Daniel R. Eagle is the Defense Attaché, Moscow, Russia. As the Senior Defense Representative to the Russian Federation, he advises senior U.S. military and political leadership on Russian military issues and coordinates the annual U.S.-Russia program of military contacts.
General Eagle enlisted in the Air Force in 1973 and served as an electronics warfare technician prior to his selection for the Airman's Education and Commissioning Program. He received his commission in 1978 through the ROTC program at the University of Portland in Oregon. He is a command pilot with more than 2,600 flying hours in a variety of aircraft, having served as a T-37 instructor pilot, F-16 instructor pilot and flight commander, as well as Chief of Wing Safety at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.
The general has commanded the 35th Operations Support Squadron at Misawa Air Base, Japan, and the 34th Operations Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy. His staff assignments include Chief of International Fighter Programs and aide-de-camp to the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff. Following Japanese language instruction, he attended the National Institute of Defense Studies in Tokyo, Japan, and went on to serve as the U.S. Air Attaché to Russia. He was subsequently assigned to NATO, serving first as the Chief of Staff of the Air Component Command, Ramstein AB, Germany, and then as Chief of Staff of NATO's first Center of Excellence, the Joint Air Power Competence Center, located in Kalkar, Germany. He first served as U.S. Defense Attaché to Russia in 2006. The general has been Director of Intelligence, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, and recently served as Deputy Commander, Combined Air Operations Center 6, Allied Air Forces Southern Europe, NATO in Eskisehir, Turkey.
