Each month the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program surveys about 141,000 businesses and government agencies, representing approximately 486,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls.
Next Releases:
- Real Earnings for September 2012 is scheduled to be released on October 16, 2012, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time.
- The Employment Situation for October 2012 is scheduled to be released on November 2, 2012, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time.

The unemployment rate decreased to 7.8 percent in September, and
total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 114,000. Employment
increased in health care and in transportation and warehousing
but changed little in most other major industries.

- IMPORTANT On July 6, 2012, BLS corrected data series for book stores and news dealers and for electronics stores. The series were removed from the BLS database on Friday, April 27, 2012, because of errors that resulted from the reconstruction of these series to fit the NAICS 2012 industry definitions.
