Did You Know?

Today, there are over 170 million imaging equipment units in U.S. buildings. Together, these units consume 30 billion kWh each year, which is more than one percent of the U.S. building sector electricity consumption.

About ENERGY STAR Imaging Equipment

Imaging Equipment

ENERGY STAR qualified imaging equipment includes copiers and fax machines; digital duplicators; printers, scanners and all-in-one devices; and, mailing machines. Models that meet the most recent ENERGY STAR requirements are 40% more energy efficient, and feature efficient designs that help equipment run cooler and last longer.

The savings add up!

If all U.S. homes replaced their stock of imaging equipment with new units meeting current ENERGY STAR requirements, Americans will save nearly $300 million annually, with an energy savings equivalent to lighting 1.4 million U.S. homes for one year.

If all businesses replaced their stock of imaging equipment with new units meeting current ENERGY STAR requirements, Americans would save 4 billion kWh per year - nearly 10% of current commercial imaging equipment consumption.

Current Specification Effective Date:

July 2009

In 2007, EPA revised and consolidated the four separate imaging equipment specifications (copiers and fax machines, digital duplicators, printers, scanners and multi-function devices and mailing machines) into a single specification addressing total energy consumption (TEC). The current ENERGY STAR specification for imaging equipment became effective on July 1, 2009.
