Beloit Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Illegal Possession of Firearm

Madison, Wis. — John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb sentenced Jacob Risseeuw, 25, Beloit, Wis., today to 46 months in prison for possessing a firearm after having been previously convicted of a felony. Risseeuw pleaded guilty to this charge on October 27, 2010.

On March 17, 2010, law enforcement officers arrested Risseeuw in Beloit, after Risseeuw delivered marijuana to an individual working with law enforcement. Risseeuw admitted to police that he had a handgun stored at his girlfriend’s residence, along with over a pound of marijuana.

Officers later executed a search warrant at that residence and recovered the gun, marijuana, and other drugs and paraphernalia. Risseeuw was on probation at the time of this offense for a felony burglary conviction.

In sentencing Risseeuw, Judge Crabb noted Risseeuw’s extensive criminal history and urged him to use his time in prison to improve himself, rather than wasting that time and returning to the community only to repeat his criminal behavior.

The charges against Risseeuw resulted from an investigation conducted by the Beloit Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Przybylinski Finn.
