3/2/2011 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy released the following statements following the killing and wounding of Airmen March 2 at the Frankfurt International Airport, Germany. The Airmen were en route to support overseas contingency operations.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those impacted by this senseless act of violence," Secretary Donley said. "The Airmen killed and wounded today in Frankfurt, Germany, exemplify the dedication and service of Airmen serving around the world in many locations. We are committed to providing the support and services necessary to the Airmen and families affected by this tragedy and remain firm in our resolve to carry on our Air Force mission."
"Our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences go out to the family, friends and teammates of those Airmen killed and wounded in the shooting incident March 2 at Frankfurt International Airport," General Schwartz said. "This loss is felt across our entire service, and our Air Force family yearns for a quick and full recovery of those wounded and those family members in pain."
"We are shocked and saddened by the unexpected deaths of our fellow Airmen," Chief Roy said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and co-workers during their time of mourning. We pray that the injured Airmen recover quickly, and that everyone affected by this tragic event receives the comfort and care they deserve."
The names of the deceased are being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.

3/5/2011 8:13:00 AM ET Seeing our Lakenheath SF Airmen every day I'm at a loss as to what to say or do. One small measure that I encourage others here at RAFL RAFM and RAFF is to tie a black or dark blue ribbon to your vehicle aerial. These victims could be the very person that had checked your ID when you drove thru the gate issued your USAFE driving permit or any number of situations. Show your support to their co-workers. And please don't criticize this as identifying yourself as US military we do that already a dozen other ways. Just do something. Condolences to those at Ramstein as well.
