Overall, 22 vocational training scholarships will be awarded, totaling $237,500.

To be eligible, applicants must be a legal wife of a military member currently serving on active duty, whether they are active duty, Reserve or National Guard. Applicants must be accepted for registration by a vocational school in one of the fields mentioned above, and be an active volunteer in their community. If awarded a scholarship, awardee must complete 12 hours of volunteer work per year while using the funds. A letter of recommendation from a nonprofit organization or other group the applicant has volunteered with will be required for application.

In addition to meeting the eligibility standards, the application process will involve the submission of a 300 word essay answering the question: How, besides being a military wife, do you feel you have contributed to making your community a better place?

Yes there are male spouses but majority rules in most cases like this one. There are many more female spouses than male. And although we would like to think our country has risen above stereotypes it is silly to think everyone has overcome that state of mind. Stay positive and keep requesting the scholarships that would apply to you one day you will find themThere are lots of other scholarships available for men and women. This is specifically funded from a women's program so I highly doubt they will include men in that program anytime soon.

To all the males who are married to active duty military. The solution is easy. Just call yourself a wife. The title is arbitrary. This will apply to same sex married to military member as well. Go ahead and apply for the scholarships if the requirement says WIFE and does not say FEMALE all males can and should apply.

Great news for wives. Now when is the Air Force going to start support programs for male spouses. I'm tired of hearing the same old line pitched at support events that they are supposedly geared toward all spouses. From decor to activites and overall presence support events are geared towerd females and not gender neutral. Male spouses deserve the same level of support and to have some aspects cater to their needs - not just those of the female spouses.

I agree with those who have asked about the military husband. My husband has devoted himself to being a stay-at-home husband and is caring for our two young children. He is also a nursing student. The opportunities aren't available for the males who provide this supporting role. Even during the Spouse Appreciation activities on my base they are geared towards the females with very little offered for the males who fill this role.

It is never about the male spouse. We are the forgotten counterpart. We do the exact same thing as a female spouse when our spouses deploy. From running the household caring for our children and missing our spouses.
