How does your job support USSTRATCOM and our missions?
By developing communications strategies, assisting in senior leaders' preparation before major events and providing timely, accurate information to direct media questions, I help shape the global information environment that both allies and adversaries operate in. Such actions can enhance support from allies and friendly countries and deter or advantageously impact adversary actions.
What has been a challenge for you regarding your work at USSTRATCOM and how have you overcome that challenge?
The range of missions and responsibilities STRATCOM covers can be intimidating in both their expanse and depth. It took a while to come to grips with the near impossibility of knowing everything. By relying on my aircraft maintainer background of being a "jack-of-all-trades," I have learned to be conversational on most topics, but rely on the subject-matter experts for in-depth details and knowledge. This headquarters is full of extremely bright minds who are more than willing to help. Usually, all you have to do is ask.
What has been your most memorable experience in the military?
It was seeing, firsthand, the bravery, courage and selflessness of injured servicemembers being treated at the Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. Facing, no doubtedly the biggest challenges of their lives, each of these Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines displayed courage and moral fortitude that was life changing and a standard I can only hope to uphold if ever confronted with personally.
