Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

With SMP, you participate in both the Guard and your college’s ROTC ROTC:
Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a college elective that allows you to earn a commission straight out of college as a second lieutenant in the Army. The course consists of both academic classes and hands-on training.

 program at the same time. During this two-year course, you’ll be paired with and mentored by a unit officer, and get paid to drill once a month with your Guard unit. In addition, check these benefits:

  • Qualify for up to 100% tuition with the Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) scholarship.
  • Earn a cash bonus, depending on your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Military Occupational Specialty (MOS):
    Guard speak for “your job.” Every job title in the Guard has a code, using a number and letter. For example, a Cavalry Scout is MOS 19D (19 Delta).
