Hurricane Battalion Soldiers test to become Scouts

1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment

MIAMI (March 29, 2012) – Twenty-nine Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment, participated in the Hurricane Battalion’s Scout Tryouts, on March 24.

The event was conducted at the Miramar Training Center, the unit’s future home.

The Soldiers took an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in the Army Combat Uniform with running shoes before competing in common tasking test.  Then each Soldier completed a six-mile Rucksack March with a minimum of 40-pound packs.  Each Soldier also participated in a pass/fail Recon test and a written test.

Spc. Veicko Kibena from A Company placed first in both the APFT and the six-mile Rucksack March.  First place in the common tasking test went to Spc. Ricardo Nater from D Company, and the best written test was Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Newman from C Company.  As a result of their efforts many of the 29 Soldiers evaluated will be transferred into the Battalion’s Scout Platoon.
