    President Barroso on the Attacks of the German and the British Embassies in Khartoum, Sudan
    Let me address another issue we have been following with great concern: the absolutely unacceptable attacks against the German embassy and the British embassy in Khartoum. We condemn it in the strongest terms. This is unacceptable, and it is against all the rules of the civilized world. Nothing justifies these kinds of attacks.

    VP Rehn's Remarks at Press Conference of the Informal ECOFIN Council Meeting
    I would like to share with you a few brief observations on the European economy because I presented the current state of the European economy to the Ministers. The Commission will present its next fully-fledged forecast in early November, but we can already say on the basis of recent soft and hard data that we expect a recovery to set in next year, albeit a more gradual one than previously forecast, and one that is subject to risks.

    The European Commission Announces new large-scale Support the Occupied Palestinian Territory
    The European Commission has announced new funding of €100 million for Palestine in the areas of water and sanitation and supporting refugees, as well as a package of support to Area C (the part of the West Bank under direct Israeli occupation), amongst other things. The EU is the largest donor to the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

    The authorities in Jordan have officially requested urgent assistance through the European Commission's Monitoring and Information Centre (MIC) to help the country cope with the influx of tens of thousands of Syrian Refugees.
