Guerrieri, head of Old Greenwich-based nonprofit Rockin' Mom Appalachian Project (RAMP), was honored with a “Joe’s Hero” award and a personal visit by Senator Joe Lieberman on Friday.

Senator Joe Lieberman bestowed Amy Guerrieri, head of Old Greenwich-based nonprofit Rockin' Mom Appalachian Project (RAMP), with a “Joe’s Hero” award during a media event held Friday at RAMP's headquarters at 187 Sound Beach Avenue.

Launched by Sen. Lieberman in 2003, the “Joe’s Hero” awards recognize the accomplishments of outstanding citizens, organizations and schools in Connecticut.

"It takes eternal vigilance to protect Long Island Sound," Sen. Lieberman said.
And, with his time as a senator anything but eternal, Lieberman wants to make sure the torch that is Long Island Sound is received with equal passion by his successors.

"There are challenges ahead," Lieberman said. "Climate change will threaten the Sound, and some of the chemicals dripping in to the Sound will as well, so we've got work to do."

The outgoing senator hosted a roundtable discussion in New Haven Thursday, his passion not lost on his contemporaries.

"I think, environmentally, there's precious little that... Read More »

    08.15.12 at 1:13 PM

By Senator Joe Lieberman and Senator Susan Collins

But this small-town architecture that remains the core of the Internet’s foundation is cracking under the demands placed on it as it has grown into a global megalopolis that touches almost every part of our daily lives. We use it for entertainment, communications, banking, commerce and to control the systems that open and close the valves and switches in our critical infrastructure — things like power plants, energy pipelines and our financial, transportation, and water systems.

Today, the Internet is under attack on all fronts. National Security Agency Director Gen. Keith Alexander blamed cyber-atta... Read More »
