    A Public Hearing convened by the Montgomery County Worker Safety & Health Commission featured Opening Remarks by County Executive Isiah Leggett, and Councilmembers Valerie Ervin, George Leventhal, and Nancy Navarro who heard testimony on September 21 by County immigrant workers and also by authorities on occupational safety and health.

    Fire & Rescue Chief Richard Bowers and County Councilmembers Valerie Ervin and Craig Rice joined students, teachers and parents at Dr. Charles Drew Elementary School to celebrate International Walk to School Day.  About 40 schools throughout the County held events that promote safe walking and biking and enhance connections between families, schools and the broader community.

    Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (center) presented bonus checks to a team of Department of Transportation (MCDOT) employees who developed and implemented an idea that is saving the County about $16,000 a year.  The team is the first to receive the bonus under the County’s Rewarding Excellence Program that encourages front line employees to identify and develop cost effective processes.  Pictured are team members, Joe Adler, director, Office of Human Resources (OHR); Art Holmes, director, MCDOT; Al Roshdieh, deputy director MCDOT; Emil Wolanin, Traffic Engineering division chief; Kaye Beckley, OHR Business Operations and Performance Division manager and Melissa Boone-Miller, OHR Rewarding Excellence coordinator.

  • Sister City Signing

    On Thursday, September 27, 2012, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett signed the County's second Sister City agreement. At a signing ceremony in Gondar, Ethiopia, Leggett said "I am so pleased to establish this bond with one of Africa's most historic and important cities". Thirty-eight individuals, including County community and business leaders, representatives from Montgomery College, and County officials. All County officials who participated in the trip paid all their own expenses and took vacation time. The purpose of the program is to encourage and foster friendship, partnership and mutual cooperation through educational, cultural, social, economic, humanistic and charitable exchanges between the people of Montgomery County and communities of other nations.

  • Groundbreaking for Victory Court

    County Executive Isiah Leggett joined Cardinal Donald Wuerhl, Archbishop of Washington at the groundbreaking for Victory Court, , a mixed-income senior rental community that will bring 86 one and two bedroom apartments to downtown Rockville. Victory Court will be constructed on a 3.3 acre parcel of land owned by Montgomery County. Victory Housing will lease the land from the County.
