Dress Smart

Dressing smart for security will get you through the checkpoint faster.

Walk Through Metal Detectors

Items that could set off a metal detector include:

  • Keys
  • Loose Change
  • Mobile Electronic Devices
  • Heavy Jewelry
  • Clothing with metal buttons, snaps, or cuffs
  • Metal hair barrettes or other hair decoration
  • Belt Buckles
  • Under-wire bras

Imaging Technology

Imaging technology looks for any items - metallic and non-metallic - on the body. We recommend removing ALL items from your pockets and certain accessories that you might be wearing, including:

  • Wallet
  • Belt
  • Bulk Jewelry
  • Money
  • Keys
  • Cell Phones

Removing these items will reduce your chances of needing additional screening after you exit the machine. To avoid the chance of leaving any of your personal items behind, we recommend that you place them in your carry-on bag to entering the checkpoint.

Shoes

Travelers over the age of 13 are required to remove their shoes and put them through the x-ray machine for inspection. Children 12 and under can leave their shoes on.

Head Coverage

You are permitted to wear head coverings and religious garments, but you may be directed to additional screening if your headwear is loose fitting or large enough to hide prohibited items.

Body Piercings

Metal body piercings may cause an alarm at the metal detector, resulting in additional screening. You may ask to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to the pat-down search.

Private Screening

If you alarm any of the screening technologies, you may request private screening at any time.
