Mr. LaHood, I sent you a private message to your Facebook inbox about an application we've developed to encourage drivers to stop talking and texting on the phone while driving. I'd like to speak with you about it at your earliest convenience. Please check your inbox. Thank you.

  2. To encourage students to pursue STEM education, DOT recently hosted a national competition called the Recognizing Aviation and Aerospace Innovation in Science and Engineering Award (RAISE). Today, we've got our first winners!
  3. DC's 12-mile Riverwalk Trail stops 4 miles shy of MD's 40-mile Anacostia trail system. DOT is bridging the gap, creating a seamless transportation network.
  4. Over the last six months, ridership on Valley Metro light rail is up 6.2 % over the same period in 2011. Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and Valley Metro planners are banking on light rail's success with the 3.1-mile Central Mesa Extension to connect Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe.
  5. To make sure we're using our thousands of miles of river and coastline effectively, the Obama Administration has developed an innovative Marine Highways Program and we have used TIGER funding to invest in our ports. But we’re also ensuring that our waterways are as good for the environment as they are for business.
  6. The White House pushed for the transportation provisions in the Recovery Act because they knew putting men and women to work repairing and modernizing America's transportation infrastructure would be a smart investment. They were right, and here's a project from Federal Highway Administration that's proving it.
  7. $545 million loan will generate as much as $1.75 billion in investment for this key project. We're putting people to work in the short-term while strengthening the regional economy for the future by making it easier for transit riders to reach downtown Los Angeles, nearby communities, and the shuttle to LAX.
  8. Today marks the 11th anniversary of this effort, and I am proud to add my voice to the many safety messages in the Kansas Department of Transportation Put the Brakes on Fatalities blog series. All of our technological advances alone are not enough to move us toward zero highway fatalities; we need your help.
  9. One of the DOT-supported projects that most impressed me in Boston is the Hubway Bike Sharing program started by Mayor Menino's Boston Bikes initiative.
  10. National Center for Safe Routes to School and I are grateful to the more than 3,300 schools across the country participating in today's effort to encourage more families to get up, get out, and get moving so they can enjoy the many benefits of safely walking, bicycling, and even scootering to school.
  11. Our nation's businesses rely on a 21st century transportation network that can get parts, supplies, and finished products where they need to go--safely and efficiently. That's why The White House and DOT are committed to investing in a reliable, modern air cargo system that can keep up with the speed of global commerce.
  12. Every day, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is on both Facebook and Twitter with more good news about transit than they can possibly share, relentlessly telling the story of American public transportation. And--thanks to many different partners--it's a good one.
  13. Made possible by $20.5 million in Recovery Act funding from the Federal Aviation Administration, the new tower will help make air travel even safer, modernize our air traffic control system, and support businesses in northeastern Pennsylvania.
