Air Force selects Holloman AFB energy project developer

7/3/2012 - San Antonio, Texas -- The Air Force has selected New Generation Biomass to develop a renewable energy project at Holloman AFB, N.M. that will use wood waste to create power for commercial use.
Ms. Kathleen Ferguson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Installations, approved New Generation's selection for the project 14 Jun 12. According to information provided by New Generation, the company will develop a 20 megawatt Black Bear Biomass Power Facility to provide energy security for the installation, jobs in the local community, and electrical power.
"The Black Bear Biomass project demonstrates the power of EULs to benefit not only the Air Force, but the local community," Ms. Ferguson said. "This project puts a source of renewable energy much closer to the Alamogordo and Holloman AFB communities than current sources. That provides a level of energy security for everyone involved."
The project will burn wood from forest thinning, landfills, orchard pruning, sawmill residue, used pallets and other sources to generate energy. The fuel wood can be stored as wood chips or whole logs. Ash from the plant can be used in soil treatment and as a road base or landfill cover.
The Air Force Real Property Agency acquires, manages and disposes of Air Force-controlled real property worldwide. AFRPA manages the Air Force EUL program; AFRPA helps installations leverage real property assets to achieve value for the Air Force through partnership with private industry.
