12/13/2010 - MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AFNS) -- Senior Airman Brian D. Smith, 23, assigned to the 923rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., was pronounced dead after a vehicle accident Dec. 11.

Airman Smith was an active duty assistant crew chief. He enlisted into the Air Force in July 2007 and arrived at Davis-Monthan AFB in February 2008.

"The loss of this member of our Air Force family is tragic," said Col. Gary Henderson, 23rd Wing commander. "Our sincerest condolences go out to those mourning this great loss with us."

The 923rd AMS operates at Davis-Monthan AFB, but falls under the command of the 23rd Wing here.

Airman Smith's hometown was Simi Valley, Calif. He was promoted to senior airman Dec. 17, 2009, and had been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and NATO Medal.
