MAJCOMs to sponsor inaugural joint Air Force-level AFSO21 workshop

10/27/2010 - PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AFNS) -- Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century, better known as AFSO21, is a fairly new program to the Air Force, but working smarter and more efficiently aren't new concepts.
In an environment where the operations tempo is in constant 'do more with less' mode, four Air Force major command leaders are sponsoring a joint, Air Force-level AFSO21 training workshop in Denver, Colo., Nov. 2 through 4.
"This is a unique opportunity because the Air Force has not provided a joint training workshop in the past," said Col. Brian Creelman, the director of Smart Operations at AFSPC headquarters at Peterson AFB.
The workshop, sponsored jointly by AFSPC, Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserve Command and Air Mobility Command AFSO21 leaders, is designed to equip Airmen with skills vital to improving mission effectiveness through training, networking, motivation and exposure to Air Force and MAJCOM strategic vision.
"While each of the sponsoring major commands have conducted their own training workshops in the past, this workshop represents the first Air Force-level AFSO21 conference," said Lt. Col. Craig Plain, with the Air Force Reserve Command AFSO21 office. "This workshop is open to all Air Force continuous process improvement practitioners, and we are very excited about this training and crosstalk opportunity for our AFSO21 experts."
AFSO21 is a process improvement program which empowers Air Force personnel to work more efficiently and effectively, concentrating on what's most important while eliminating all types of waste.
"Over Green Belt and Black Belt facilitators and other continuous process improvement practitioners will be attending the workshop," Colonel Creelman said. Workshop presenters include continuous-process-improvement professionals from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps, as well as private industry.
David Tillotson III, the Air Force deputy chief management officer, and a member of the Senior Executive Service, is scheduled to be a featured speaker at the AFSO training workshop.
University of Tennessee professionals are scheduled to conduct a senior-leader training course in conjunction with the workshop, with the intent of fostering interaction and understanding between continuous-process-improvement practitioners, wing commanders and vice commanders.
