Radiocast: Lowering High Cholesterol

Debra: This is Healthcare 411: Information for better health. Having high cholesterol can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Fortunately, there are treatment options for keeping it under control. A guide from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality explains many different treatments, including common cholesterol-lowering drugs. Dr. Shilpa Amin:

Dr. Amin: This information can help patients talk with their doctors about medicines to treat high cholesterol. The guide includes information about the benefits, risks and side effects of different kinds of cholesterol-lowering medicines. Patients should use this information to decide with their doctor which treatment options are best for them.

Debra: A copy of the guide, called "Treating High Cholesterol: A Guide for Adults," is available online at effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov. Healthcare 411 is produced by AHRQ, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. I’m Debra James for Healthcare 411.
