Mark A. Cohen, an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of Enforcement of the Department of Commerce's U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), will give a lecture to students and faculty of Savannah State University, on Chinese intellectual property law. The presentation is part of the China Lecture Series, an eight-week outreach program that pairs Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with federal agencies engaged in international activities, pursuant to the President's Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Mr. Cohen's presentation will focus on the contributions of African Americans to U.S. technology and the arts, as well as the U.S. intellectual property system, from George Washington Carver to some of the young, new inventors and intellectual property officials. He will place emphasis on intellectual property issues of importance to the Savannah area, including Savannah's role as a major port for importation of Chinese goods and inspection of merchandise, the impact of Chinese counterfeiting and piracy on the U.S. economy, and the protection of African American and Georgia products and creations in the Chinese market. There will be a question and answer session immediately following the lecture.
