09/17/2012 - Helping PHAs End Homelessness through Supportive Housing
Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) administer powerful resources for very vulnerable populations, making them critical partners for ending homelessness. That’s why CSH is proud to present a great new resource for PHAs and other stakeholders interested in pursuing supportive housing in their communities.

CSH’s PHA Toolkit provides specific strategies and concrete examples of the roles PHAs can play to create supportive housing. An innovative and proven solution to some of communities’ toughest problems, supportive housing combines affordable housing with services that help people who face the most complex challenges to live with stability, autonomy and dignity. Supportive housing is best used when targeted for the subset of individuals and families with histories of homelessness, chronic health conditions (including mental illness and substance use) and costly public system utilization.
Online now at csh.org/phatoolkit, this new resource provides tools, examples and advice for PHAs venturing into or expanding work in supportive housing. Everything PHAs need to create supportive housing is just a click away, including:

CSH is grateful for our collaboration with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, HUD and others in making this toolkit a success. We will continue those collaborations moving forward, and will be engaging the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA), the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) and others to reach out to PHAs across the country, providing the concrete tools and on-the-ground experience to make it happen.
