Rep. Kelly to Host Academies Night October 10 at Slippery Rock University

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) will host an Academies Night to highlight the opportunities available for high school graduates to attend one of the U.S. military academies or ROTC programs. The open-house presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 10th in the Science and Technology Auditorium at Slippery Rock University.  Registration begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a formal program featuring each of the academies and Slippery Rock ROTC program.

Individual presentations will be made by the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, the United States Coast Guard Academy at New London, CT, and the ROTC program located at Slippery Rock University.

High school juniors and sophomores are encouraged to attend this informative program to learn the steps needed to complete the application process.  Seniors who have already applied may wish to attend and follow-up on any application questions.  Family members are encouraged to accompany the students and learn more about academy life and the unique possibilities that each of these higher educational institutions provides.  The program is also open to high school guidance counselors so they can assist their students in making informed choices regarding these institutions. 

The goal of this Academies Night Open House is to inform young men and women who have an interest in service careers about the wide range of educational and career opportunities available through the Armed Services.  Individuals from each of the military academies and staff from Rep. Kelly’s district offices will be available to answer questions at the end of the program.
